Anzegem Lancaster MG-N JB455

Vandaag, 16 juni, vond de herdenkingsplechtigheid plaats van:

* de Engelse en Nieuw-Zeelandse bemanningsleden van Lancaster MG-N JB455 (Deze Lancaster stortte neer achter de hoeve Vindevogel-Debosschere, Weedries te Anzegem)

* F/Sgt Frank Burton Elliott (Deze piloot stierf op 7 februari 1945 te Anzegem toen zijn
P-51B/C Mustang Mk III in de lucht ontplofte)

* 4de bataljon South Lancashire Regiment (Op 16 juni 1915 nabij
Bellewaerde (Ieper) ondergingen zij hun vuurdoop in the Battle of Hooge. (Deze
‘extra’ bij de Anzegemse herdenking groeide uit vriendschapsbanden van één
van de initiatiefnemers.)

De herdenkingsplechtigheid werd o.a. bijgewoond door de ambassadeur van Australië, de burgemeester van Anzegem alsook door Gabriël Vindevogel, de laatste ooggetuige van de crash.

Today, June 16th, the commemoration service took place of:

* the English and New-Zealand crewmembers of Lancaster MG-N JB455 (This Lancaster bomber crashet behind the farm Vindevogel-Debosschere, Weedries at Anzegem)

* F/Sgt Frank Burton Elliott (The pilot died on February 7th, 1945 at Anzegem while his P-51B/C Mustang Mk III exploded in the air)

* 4th bataljon South Lancashire Regiment (On June 16th, 1915, they underwent their fire baptism at the Battle of Hooge, near Bellewaerde (Ypres). This “extra” to the commemoration service is due to the friendship of one of the promoters)

The commemoration service was held in the presence of the ambassador of Australia, the mayor of Anzegem and Gabriël Vindevogel, the last eye-witness of the crash
