Witchford 18-07 #1

Today we went to Witchford after a long drive. We were welcomed by Geoff Reynolds (Mildenhall Register) en Joann Eldrett (widow of Frederick Eldrett).
Unfortunately due to the mysterious delay with 1 hour of our boat, they had to wait a bit longer than expected.

After a lovely welcome and chat, the logbook and some photos of Frederick Eldrett were shown. Later on we had a small walk and showed them some remarquable places of the former airfield. After a stop at the monument for the 115 Sqn RAF crewemembers, we drove further to our next stop Ely.

Normally, there will be no post tomorrow from our visit to Cambridge, as it is not specificly linked to WW II.

More photos will be added soon.

  1. Joan and I had a wonderful time meeting up with you at Witchford. It was particularly nice to find that her husband had flown in the ‘Wise old Owl’ before it’s demise. Also to learn that her husband then went on to a career in BOAC which needs some further research. Without your sharp eyes spotting this we may not have known.
Kindest regards and keep up your excellent work.

  2. Thank you for the kind words. We also had a great time meeting you both 🙂
