Met respect voor de gangbare COVID19 maatregelen hielden we een beperkt eerbetoon aan de 2 crews van 115 Squadron RAF, die in de nacht van 24/25 april 1944 om het leven kwamen.

75 jaar “VE-day”, het had een feest moeten zijn, maar een vreemd virus besloot er anders over.
Niettegenstaande herdenken vele mensen over de ganse wereld dit gegeven. Een kaarsje voor het raam met een foto van een familielid, een bloemetje aan een monument, …
Geen enkele getroffen familie laat dit virus hun gedachtenis stopzetten.

Ook voor ons had deze dag een speciale betekenis moeten hebben. Op deze dag, 75 jaar V-day, zou immers de Engelstalige versie van het boek verkrijgbaar zijn over de crash van Lancaster KO-Y DS734.
Een nieuwe datum zal na de Corona-perikelen worden bekendgemaakt.

75 years “VE-day”. It had to be a party but a strange virus decided to spoil it.
All over the world, people showed their power in commemorating the 75th anniversary of VE-day.
Putting a candle with a phto of a relative at their window, a flower at a local monument, …
None of the families who lost a relative choose to stop the commemoration.

Also, it had to be a special day for us, as on this day we would announce that….our book about Lancaster KO-Y DS734 would be available in an English version.
As soon as the Corona restrictions are over, we will announce a new date for this launch.

Vandaag, 76 jaar geleden, om 21u51 steeg Lancaster de Lancaster DS734 KO-Y op te Witchford.
Bijna 3 en een half uur later worden ze geraakt door vijandelijk vuur en crashen ze te Pasbrug.
Door de Corona-maatregelen kunnen we dit jaar geen herdenking houden op deze dag, maar dat wil niet zeggen dat we helemaal niets doen.
Met onder andere deze post willen we een eer bewijzen aan hen die om het leven kwamen.
De leden van de werkgroep zullen, Coronagewijs elk in hun huis, deze avond het glas heffen op deze 7 mannen en we vragen u deze avond even hetzelfde te doen!

 

Today, 76 years ago, at 21h51, Lancaster DS734 KO-Y took off from Witchford..
Nearly 3 and a half hours later, they were hit by enemy fire and crashed near Pasbrug.
Due to Covid19 we are not allowed to have a commemoration at the monument this weekend but we are doing something else!
With this post we want to honor those brave crewmembers who died.
The members of the research group will raise the glass, each from his home, to the 7 crewmembers and we kindly ask you to do the same!

“The city of Mechelen, in coöperation with the 8 Mei Comite Mechelen invite u on Saturday April 27th for the book release at the city hall.
The book, written by Bram Dermout, brings the story of the British Avro Lancaster bomber and his tragic faith of the crew that crashed in Sint-Katelijne-Waver in 1944.
Everybody is welcome from 16h00. Book release will start at 16.15.
The book is writtin in Dutch, but will be available next year also in English (probably november 2019). You can pre-order a dutch version book via Bram Dermout, e-mail: bram@ww2awards.com, for € 17,50.
For each book sold, € 2 will go to the “display of memorabilia” in Witchford, former airbase of 115 sqn.
Shipping is €5 or you can have your copy at the book release.

After the book release, the city council offers a drink for the present people and the relatives.
Subscription is needed via 8 Mei comité Mechelen before April 19th”

Binnen enkele weken gaan we richting Engeland om daar contact te hebben met de uitgever van het boek.
Deze uitgever zal instaan voor het uitbrengen van de NL en EN versie van het boek.
Op deze manier zal er opnieuw een stap verder gezet worden voor het boek.

Recent werd besloten om uit de groep “Flyboys” te stappen, daar de samenwerking zeer stroef begon te lopen. Niettegenstaande zal er op Lancastervlak nog een en ander op de agenda blijven staan. Ook voor volgend jaar zijn al enkele lezingen geboekt.

Within a few weeks we will head to England, to meet our publisher of the book.
The publisher will be the same for the NL and EN version of the book.

Recently we quitted the group “Flyboys” as working together was more and more difficult. But, there will be a lot ot things about Lancaster on our projectlines.
Also, some readings for 2019 are already booked.

Op 24 april werd de herdenking gehouden, voor wat die nacht 74 jaar geleden gebeurde.
Dit jaar was er naast vertegenwoordiging van de gemeente Sint-Katelijne-Waver, ook een afgevaardigde schepen voor de stad Mechelen.

De crewleden werden één voor één afgeroepen als blijvende herinnering voor onze vrijheid.

On April 24, the commemoration was held, for the crash that would be 74 years ago that night.
This year there was a delegation of the town of Sint-Katelijne-Waver, but also from the town of Mechelen.

The name of the crewmembers was called out, to be in our memory for ever.
